Parkfield House: A Turnkey Family Home in Scarsdale, NY

WHAT OUR CLIENT WANTED - With a second baby on the way, a Manhattan family was ready to trade their increasingly crowded one-bedroom apartment for a spacious 4,500-square-foot home in Scarsdale. But timing was not on their side. The wife was spending the summer abroad visiting family, and the husband was deeply immersed in his work in New York City—leaving very little time for hands-on involvement in furnishing and finishing an entire new house. The project became, by necessity, a fully turnkey undertaking, with Luminosus Designs entrusted to manage and execute every detail with minimal day-to-day input from the clients.

The scope was substantial: three bedroom suites, a nursery, four bathrooms, a formal dining room, kitchen, and family room all needed to be furnished and brought to life. The result was a home that felt not only complete, but deeply considered. The dramatic dining room, anchored by a custom-designed table with an elegant glass interpretation of a classic Lazy Susan at its center, along with custom chairs and buffet, was later recognized by the judges of the New York School of Interior Design as “Best Dining Room” in the 2015 Westchester Home Design Competition.

Despite being new construction, the house presented its own architectural challenges. In the primary suite, an awkward window placement threatened to derail the furniture layout until Mimi devised a characteristically clever solution: the exterior appearance of the house was preserved, while an upholstered interior wall panel was created to conceal the window and allow for the ideal placement of the bed and custom nightstand. Above, a luminous silver ceiling treatment adds a final, unexpected layer of refinement—proof that even the most practical solutions can become beautiful design moments.

Completed largely while the clients were away, the home was ready for them to simply walk in and begin living—a true turnkey project, delivered with care, clarity, and confidence.
