Cotton Tree: Barefoot Luxury Resort in Grand Cayman
What Our Client Wanted - Cotton Tree is a waterfront residential-style resort in Grand Cayman, designed around a “barefoot luxury” concept that balances relaxed coastal living with a refined level of comfort.
The property includes a collection of beach cottages, guest suites, and shared amenities such as a pool, spa area, gym, and yoga space. Each cottage was designed to function as a complete living environment, with private suites, a shared living room, bar, and fully equipped kitchen.
The client sought to create a cohesive experience across all guest accommodations and public areas—one that felt effortless, well-resolved, and consistent with the architectural vision.
Luminosus Designs was engaged by the project architect, MJM Design Studio, to develop and implement the furnishing and operational layers of the guest environments and shared spaces.
The scope extended beyond furniture selection to include the full outfitting of each residence—ensuring that every element, from furnishings to linens and kitchenware, worked together as a complete and functional system.
Each cottage and guest space was approached as a fully resolved living environment. Furnishings were selected for comfort, proportion, and durability in a coastal setting, while maintaining a relaxed and understated aesthetic.
A significant portion of the work focused on the operational details that shape the guest experience. This included sourcing and coordinating:
bedding, linens, and towels
indoor and outdoor dining sets and drinkware
kitchenware and bar accessories
decorative elements that add warmth without excess
These decisions were made with both daily use and long-term maintenance in mind, ensuring consistency across multiple units while allowing each space to feel complete and intentional.
In the guest studio, stock furnishings were introduced to allow for flexibility of use, supporting both short-term stays and extended occupancy.
The result is a collection of residential-style environments that feel cohesive, effortless, and fully considered—supporting the overall experience of the property without drawing attention to any single element.
